As a member of the Guild of Entrepreneurs’ Outreach Committee, I recently attended an Education event at Christ’s Hospital school.

A key area of focus for the Guild is for its members to give money and time for charitable works that support the development of entrepreneurs and help to bring the opportunities of entrepreneurship to young people.

For me, being an entrepreneur is not about business alone — a big part of it is being able to give back your time, engage and inspire others and make a difference in some way. This also aligns closely to the Prenetics Group’s vision to change peoples’ lives for the better — in this case, not through genetics but through the simple idea of giving back.

Christ’s Hospital was a very special place to visit; not only do they provide exemplary education without the fees to bright students from low income backgrounds, but have also been providing a lifeline to those with less since the 16th Century.

On my visit, I was part of a panel which gave the students the opportunity to learn from a number of entrepreneurs, discussing their motivations, opportunities and challenges that entrepreneurship can bring, touching on my own experiences from leading in the genetics field.

I want to inspire the future generation of entrepreneurs to have confidence, giving them advice and important lessons about what taking an idea to reality entails. As part of the ongoing conversation, the students had the chance to interact with the panel.

I enjoyed talking to the students about how they could be ‘intrepreneurial’ inside a company, even touching on how they could disrupt Christ’s Hospital — suggesting that the students look at EduTech and how they could revolutionise the school environment to become more efficient.

It is a real passion of mine to engage with the entrepreneurs of the future and visiting Christ’s Hospital was a true privilege.
